From One Pickup Truck to Colorado’s Restyling Leader
Autoplex began with a simple idea: deliver better vehicle upgrades, done right the first time. In 1995, founder Josh Elliott started the company with just a truck, a toolkit, and a handful of dealership relationships. He called it Auto Trim Design, and he was the technician, the salesperson, and the delivery driver—all in one.
Over the next three decades, Autoplex evolved into a full-service automotive restyling company with six locations across Colorado. Here’s how we got there.
Our Timeline
1995 – Humble Beginnings
Josh launches Auto Trim Design out of a pickup truck, offering pinstripes, spoilers, sunroofs, and trim upgrades to car dealers in the Denver area. Early work is done in dealership bays or on-site.
1996–2000 – First Building & Rapid Growth
After landing major accounts like Douglas Toyota, Josh opens his first location near I-25. Window tint, leather upholstery, and light electronics are added. The business grows steadily until a major account is lost, forcing a pivot and deeper service diversification.
2007 – Northglenn Shop Built
The company opens its first purpose-built facility in Northglenn, strategically placed to serve Denver and northern Colorado. The shop focuses almost exclusively on dealer work.
2012 – Acquisition of Van Works Locations
Autoplex acquires Autoplex by Van Works, adding three locations: North Fort Collins, South Fort Collins, and Longmont. This expands the company into truck accessories, topper installations, and retail sales for the first time.
2016 – Loveland Flagship Opens
With the northern stores growing, Autoplex builds a new flagship facility in Loveland, replacing both Fort Collins locations. It is designed for scale and becomes a model for future stores with a retail showroom, expanded bays, and dealer-fleet support.
2018 – Rebranding to Autoplex Restyling Centers
To unify branding and reduce confusion between dealer and retail divisions, all stores are rebranded under one name: Autoplex Restyling Centers. The company expands digital marketing, operations systems, and customer experience tools.
2022 – Colorado Springs Expansion
Autoplex acquired Timberline Toppers and added a Colorado Springs location. The small topper shop is expanded to a full-service restyling center, offering tint, bedliners, and complete accessory installation.
2025 – Littleton and Lakewood Added
Autoplex acquires two new locations in Littleton and Lakewood to complete its Front Range coverage, formerly part of a regional topper company. These locations expand the company’s reach into South Metro Denver.
